I started to watch the movie, ADAM, last night but fell asleep a third of the way into it. So still being sick with my cold and leg I decided to watch it this morning. It is a very good movie. It is probably a B movie but just the same, it is very good. I recommend it.
It is about a young man that suffers from a type of slight autism and how he manages in this world. In the opening scene it is already known that his father (care giver) has just passed away. His mother had passed away when he was a young boy. He meets a woman and their relationship develops in spite of obstacles. I am not going to tell you anymore except that is isn’t a sappy romance.
I am addicted to Audio books. It seems that I can’t do my housework or cook or do some other kind of project (that doesn’t require reading or conversing) with out my head set on listening to an audio book. I listen to about two a week unless it is huge like The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. Becky, who I work with, recommended it to me ~ she said it is one of her all time favourite books. I finally got it last week from the library. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I recommend it. It is about four Americian sisters, their mother and their reverend father and growing up in Africa. This book tells you lots about Africa and its people with a bit of politics thrown in and the sisters and how they cope with moving from USA to Africa.

I am not very good at being a couch potato (I just don’t have the patience) but I have been off of work since last Friday healing from surgery done on my right knee so I am fairly immobile at this time. I also caught a miserable cold this past Tuesday which makes me even more immobile and foggy headed. I have now read too many trash mags (not much concentrating needed there) and watched three movies.
Serious Moonlight was almost OK (again no concentration needed) ~ Meg Ryan and Timothy Bottoms in a stupid, romantic comedy.
The Road – very dark movie. It was pretty disturbing as well so I do not recommend it.
This morning was Case 39~ very spooky and scary with Renee Zellweger and Steve Khan.
I have a few B movies left the see. I am going to put in Adam now – hhhmmmm! Why am I watching B movies because they were given to me – in other words they are free.
Bob stopped at the library and picked up a book that I reserved ~ An Embarrassment of Mangoes – A Caribbean Interludeby Canadian author, Ann Vanderhoof. I recently heard a review on CBC Radio One of her latest book – The Spice Necklace but it isn’t in libraries yet – hence I will try her first book before I decide whether to order her new book through Amazon. Ann Vanderhoof and her husband, Steve Manley, have got a sailboat and the cruise the Caribbean Islands. My friend, Seija is about to embark on a similar journey which is why this book tweaked my interest. I will let you know how it is.

I also saw An Education~ a fun and fabulous movie ~ definitely an A movie
I just finished watching An Education. I recommend it. It is a fun movie to watch. It takes place in England in 1961. It is about a high school girl that falls in love with the life of glamour and an older man. The fashions in this movie are fabulous. I kept thinking of Audrey Hepburn. Watch the movie ~ it is quite entertaining.
What a good movie!! The first third of the movie is lots of belly laughs! The second third of the movie is some-what serious. The final third of the movie is tear jerking – unless you are made of stone. In the final third of the movie, Marley became Beasley to me (Beasley passed away this past summer and I still think about her all the time). Marley is an old dog now in the final third with the old dog walk and the glassey eyes and the silly grin but still always ravenously hungry! The love and loyalty an old dog has for their master and family is so beautiful!!
