Yoga

Filed under: Exercise — Susan @ 5:40 pm

Well I did it again, one too many of some pose. My lower back is right out. It was either when I did some pose that I am to old to be doing (but got praise from others in the class for attempting it) or one too many “Praying Bridge” or one too many head stands maybe all combined. I had such a great time in last Friday’s class that I felt that I could do more and better this Friday – and yes – I do practise through the week – a lot – Pilates too!
Bob and I were suppose to go to the driving range and hit a couple of buckets of balls this afternoon but no could do. I was looking forward to that as Bob had this great plan of monitoring how I use each club for distant – kind of like a lesson. Next Friday I guess and yes I will be going to the chiropractor, then Pilates and a Yoga class on Friday before the driving range.

Yoga vs Pilates

Filed under: Exercise — Susan @ 9:04 am

I signed up for Yoga classes three weeks ago. One of the poses just didn’t work for me and I really wrecked my neck. Luckily, I have a great chiropractor and she was able to snap me back into place but my neck still hurts and I am still icing it. Any ways, turns out my chiropractor is not a Yoga fan and suggested I stick to the the Pilates which I have accepted her advice. I do practise the Yoga poses that I did enjoy along with the Pilates almost everyday – I look forward to each day and really love it! I also meditate for 31 minutes to a meditation CD that my Yoga/Pilates instuctor created – I put my head set on and so what I hear is right in my brain! Wow, each time I listen to it I hear new things – it is truly incredible and I feel so rejuventated after it – I recommend the meditation!

I went on a new hike today! It was grand! Dove Hill above Castlegar with the trail head starting at the golf course. The views were breath taking!!!

I am going to start Yoga this week for 10 weeks. I am looking forward to it!

Two great places!

Filed under: Exercise — Susan @ 2:36 pm

Patty, the lady that looked after Bailey and our house, told me she was taking Bailey over to the Kootenay Canal for walks while she was here. I checked the Kootenay Canal out and what a fine place for power walking! It is right in the open so no danger of wild animals or jerks. It is nice and flat, the scenery is just breath taking and it is easy to get a tan. The Kootenay Canal is just an 8 minute drive from my house and a good 50 minute power walk.
The other great place for power walking is the old rail beds off highway 6 along the Slocan River. That place is also nice and flat. The rail beds go a very long way so you can make your walk as long or as short as you choose. The scenery is also gorgeous along the river but I do think that there is the possibility of meeting up with wild animals or jerks but there are quite a few homes along the way so it should be safe enough. Best to go with a friend on that walk.

Snow Shoeing in March

Filed under: Exercise — Susan @ 7:41 am

What a beautiful day it was yesterday – March 7th.  The sun was big and bright and warm.  We set out for a snow shoe with minimal clothing on since we knew that we would be working up some personal body heat.  Half an hour in too the hike we ended up going down to just our one layer next to our skin and continued on for another hour hike.  Maybe I should call it a hike/march as a lot of snow was gathering on my snow shoes which caused them to way a least 3 pounds each.  Feeling good today with all that exercise and vitamin D that I got yesterday.  Nancy Greene Lake Park is where we hiked – highly reccomend it.  Apparently it is a fine place to picnic and swim in the summer – almost a weedless lake and white sand beach!
